Around six million people in the UK today are not registered to vote. Speaking at the Progress annual conference, Ed Miliband said his party needed to regain the trust of an electorate that had lost confidence in politics.
We agree. But no single party can tackle the trust issue and convince people to opt-in. To get voters turned on to politics, politicians of all stripes need to engage with people in a sane and not a sanitised conversation. A good starting point would be a grassroots National Conversation on the Beveridge Legacy today.
