Why don’t people want mayors?

Simple question: Why did voters so overwhelmingly reject the concept of elected mayors? We would really welcome your views/comments on this .On the surface it  appears to be a rejection of “localism” and may well prove to be the most important “result” of recent electoral activity.

Even in London with the Boris/ Ken factor the turnout was a pretty miserable 38%!

  1. Birmingham was the big surprise for me: if even Watson and Simon couldn’t get the Labour core out, you have to wonder what’s gone wrong with the mayor concept.
